    February 2024

    Dear Pricklers,

Valentine’s Greetings from the rugged terrain of the old west! 🌵❤️

Now, speaking of the old west, did you know that cowboys had their own unique way of celebrating Valentine’s Day? While they might not have had fancy chocolates or elaborate dinners, they often expressed affection through handcrafted gifts. A cowboy might fashion a piece of jewelry from natural materials or write a heartfelt note, keeping the tradition alive with their own rustic charm.

On to exciting news – If you haven’t heard — The rustling is still rocking the chuckwagon! This cowgirl is hard at work on the cookbook that’ll tie into the contemporary western romance Whiskey Salvation series. Finally got all them words written for the recipes. Now I reckon some snapshots of the dishes are needed, right? Don’t fret, even though I’ll be snapping the pics, my own posse will be making sure the food is in the pictures.

So now this makes me ponder… Ever thought of what a cookbook needs to make your culinary journey smoother? Share your suggestions, and let’s make this cookbook as delightful as a cowboy’s campfire supper. Me? A good set of spectacles. Haha!

As you sit by the crackling fire, let’s tip our hats to fantasy romance author, Anita Primrose, the talented author behind the captivating novel The Dragon Lords (Bonded Wings) — "Love can be blind, it can also be deadly.”

Follow her at aprimrose | Instagram, Facebook | Linktree

and saddle up for thrilling reads from her latest book.

Now, on a bittersweet note, my dear guide dog, Winnie "Pooh," trotted off to the great pasture in the sky at the end of January. Her memory lingers, and though the thought of a new companion might be on the horizon, but for now, the ache is too raw.

Pets have always been cherished in the cowboy way of life — Loyal companions under vast western skies. In the vast landscapes of the Old West, dogs played vital roles alongside cowboys as trusted companions and valuable working partners. These four-legged heroes were more than just loyal friends; they were skilled ranch hands. Herding dogs, such as Border Collies or Australian Shepherds, showcased their intelligence and agility while aiding in the management of cattle. Alert and responsive, they helped cowboys round up livestock, ensuring the smooth operation of ranch life. In addition to their herding prowess, dogs served as guardians, offering protection and camaraderie to their cowboy counterparts during long rides across the west.

Fast forward to the present, and the remarkable story of Winnie "Pooh" — a Seeing Eye dog guide, adds a poignant chapter to this legacy. For a blind author, Pooh wasn’t just a guide; she was a lifesaver and the epitome of a steadfast friend. Pooh’s unwavering dedication went beyond guiding through physical spaces; she helped guide me through life’s challenges. Like the irreplaceable cowboy’s dog on the ranch, Pooh became an integral part of my daily life, offering companionship that went far beyond her duty as a guide. The bond between this blind author and her guide dog mirrored the timeless connection between cowboys and their loyal companions, showcasing the enduring spirit of partnership and friendship across the ages.

“Rest In Peace, my sweet Pooh. Mamma loves you, forever!”

🌟📚Not wanting to leave on a bitter taste, please join me at the start of my book signing tour for 2024 at Orrville Public Library on March 2nd, 11 am to 2 pm. I’ll be taking names and emails for those interested in the cookbook. Hopefully, I’ll have saddle bags full of news on it’s launch date. And remember, folks, I’m going to need help rounding up ideas for a cover. If you got some now, just shoot me a reply or go to my website and send up a smoke signal. I love your e-mails!

So hitch up the wagon and hit the trail to Orrville Public Library and let’s chat, share stories, and say howdy! I look forward to meeting you all and sharing tales of the west.

Hope your Valentine’s Day was filled with love and just the right amount of chocolate.

  • Prickle Forrest Chronicles – January 2024 – A new horizon is ahead…

    Prickle Forrest Chronicles

    Chrissy Hartmann

    January 2024

    Dear Pricklers,

📖 ** 🌲🌲🌲 A new horizon is ahead of us.

Just wanted to send a little thank you with an update. Yes, we know this newsletter is early like a rooster waking at the crack of dawn, but wanted to make sure the Whiskey Salvation Posse understands how much you mean to me. So, without delay, saddle up, and read on…

    **🌟 Past Adventures:**

As the sun set on the year behind us, we reflect on the tales shared under the Prickle Forrest canopy. Your presence has been the heart of our journey, and we’re grateful for the memories crafted together. I’d personally like to thank all those in the posse who came out to meet this cowgirl at one of the many author book signings or book festivals and lasso one of the Whiskey Salvation books for your collection.

    **🚀 Present Gratitude:**

In the here and now, I extend my heartfelt thanks. The past year has been a trail well-traveled, and it’s you, dear reader, who has made it extraordinary. Your support and companionship have been a steady breeze at my back, propelling me forward. I’m now writing and editing full-time, a thrilling endeavor I embark on with gratitude in my heart.

In particular a big Texas thanks goes out to those who saddled up and rode shotgun with me during Tina Hogan Grant’s author interview last week on her A Cuppa and A Natter author interview podcast. I appreciate your support. The winners of those who participated in our giveaway, I thank you kindly and hope that you’ll send up some smoke signals to let me know you received your book.

    Prickle Forrest Chronicles

    December 2023

    Dear Pricklers,

“Happy trails to you, until we meet again…”

I hope this message finds you well as we wind down from the festive season. We’ve got a few updates and exciting news to share, so grab a cup of

coffee or your favorite reading spot and let’s dive in. But first thought to share a photo of me and the hubby in our Christmas sweaters. First time we ever did this. Boy howdy!

📧 **Important Update: Changes to Our Email Trail**

We’ve saddled up for a change in our email roundup, but worry not – it shouldn’t rustle up any dust on your end. If you happen to notice any stray tumbleweeds or glitches, give us a holler. Your feedback is as valuable as a trusty steed on the trail.

For problems e-mail me at prickleforrestllc

    🤠 **Western Christmas Fact: **

Did you know, back in the cowboy days, a cowboy might spend Christmas under the starlit sky, swapping stories ’round the campfire if he were stuck out on the range? Also, since means were meager in the old west, decorating a tree came down to stringing popcorn or dried fruit, cookies, nuts, and maybe a tin or glass bobble if available. They also used ribbon or string to decorate the branches, if available. And speaking of availability, trees weren’t always available as it was needed to heat their homes for the winter. Just a touch of the wild west to add to your holiday musings. If you would like to read more check out Jan Mackell Collin’s article

📖 **What’s on the Horizon: Third Whiskey Salvation Book and More**

I’m hard at work rustling up the third installment of the Whiskey Salvation series, and not just that – four more books are hitched to the writing wagon. With any luck, my cookbook might hit the shelves by January or February. It will be a dandy of a treat and something this cowgirl never thought she’d write.

I reckon I’ll need your help picking the best cover for this one, so stay tuned for a chance to lend your voice to the roundup. It’ll be delicious!

🔍 **Author Spotlight: Discover the Talents of Martha O’Sullivan

While you’re waiting for the next adventure in the Chronicles, take a gander at her works on her website. Her stories might just be the hidden gem in the literary saloon you’ve been looking for. I just finished her book Christmas In Tahoe and I loved it! I’ll be giving it at least four hat tips if not more when I leave my review.

**The Rodeo circuit: Heading out to do book signings and author chats

Looks as though a few book fairs have lassoed me into attending in March 2024. More details to come once we two-step all the necessary paperwork over to the promoters.

And hang on to your hats! Doing a podcast interview with Tina Hogan grant on her podcast, Cuppa And A Natter, on January 8th. Let’s hope I remember to turn on the video camera for that.

If you are on Facebook, please be sure to saddle up and ride along with her author page or join her reader group with the rest of the posse to watch the interview live; otherwise, it can be found on most if not all podcast players.

I reckon a copy of both my books will be given away to two lucky readers who participate with the interview. And if you don’t mind, I’d sure appreciate it if you could rope a few words together to leave a book review on Goodreads for Rescuing Whiskey’s Salvation by Chrissy Hartmann | Goodreads

And another for my novella Cherishing Whiskey’s Salvation by Chrissy Hartmann | Goodreads

And hold up, Amazon reviews for my debut novel, Rescuing Whiskey’s Salvation and my novella, Cherishing Whiskey’s Salvation are welcome too!

**Thank you for being part of this trail. Your support means more to me than a cloudless sky on a cattle drive. Wishing you a joyous celebration for welcoming in 2024 and looking forward to sharing more tales in the year to come.

  • Prickle Forrest Chronicles – Ever get tied up with the ghosts and ghoulies? No? Yeah, me neither. So no excuse for the tardiness…

    Prickle Forrest Chronicles

    October 2023

    Chrissy Hartmann

    Dear Pricklers,

Ever have one of those months when you just want to crawl under the electric blanket and wait for the next month to appear on your calendar? No? Yeah, me neither.

Well, sort of, but the ghosties and ghoulies made the month worth while. But, hey, that’s just our little secret. Right? Mums the word!

Read on to see what’s kept me busy or should I say painfully busy. Hahaha!

    The Past …

‡. Met the owner of Walls of Books from Parma OH who inquired about stocking her bookshelves with the Whiskey Salvation Series novels.

Holy smokes, heck yeah, Stock those shelves. Woohoo!

Crash course on publishing to IngramSpark learned in a matter of days. Ugh!

Cruising along with book 3 of the Whiskey Salvation Series… Until supply of Oreos ran out. Muses didn’t appreciate all the weight loss from the past 3 months of working out and now on Strike. Negotiations not yet worked out. Management wants Nutter Butters and Muses want Oreos.

Had to post this pic. Here is a blast from the past. It’s me dressed up as the “cat in the Hat” for Halloween 2022. Didn’t dress up this year, but will explain that soon.

    The Present …

Signed up to be an election poll worker. And yes, got hired! Woohoo! Woohoo!

Believe it or not, blind people can help with election day… and they don’t just have to pass out “I voted” stickers either. Lots to do… But the instruction manual is huge! Luckily it’s available on PDF.

Tested out the skills needed and this author is good to go. Boy howdy!

Carpeted cement floor is just as hard to fall on as cemented floor. Yep, that’s right. Got the x-rays to prove it. Dislocated the pelvis and aggravated the already compressed vertebra at the T12, L1, and L2 levels. How’d it happen? Tripped over the Puppygirl. No worries , though she’s fine. Lucky dog!

A certain 2006 Cadillac finally drove itself to the salvage yard. Well, not really, it had help since the starter finally died, not to mention other things on it…

October is “National find a really-really cheap used car month,“ right?

Is confiscating a hot tub a misdemeanor or a felony? Asking for a friend of course.

But it’s a fantastic question after celebrating the 25th “silver” wedding anniversary with the hubby at the Hidden Valley Cabin here in Ohio. They had a lovely hot tub that worked wonders on the pelvis and back injuries, not to mention the pain meds too.

    Roosevelt Glamping rocks!

‡ Now seriously behind on everything due to the accident. Ugh! But I will say I’ve made a new best friend. My electric blanket. He’s been supportive, warm, loves to snuggle, and doesn’t mind my moaning and groaning when I roll over, sit up, or even stand. His name is Red P. Flannel. Because of him, I’ve only spent maybe half the month hiding away recovering like a good girl.

    He’s awesome!

And another positive note, the Hubby found a new car. A 2014 Subaru Forester. Woohoo!

‡ Working on 4 possibly 5 books at the moment…

    What? Yep, definitely crazy here.

No need to worry though, “Treasuring Whiskey’s Salvation” is priority one on the list. And still on schedule. Sort of!

    The Future …

NaNoWriMo starts in a few days. Ready? Hahaha! Not going to answer that until December.

Book Festivals galore coming up. Woohoo!

Massillon Public Library Book Festival (November 11, 2023), Orrville Public Library Book Festival (March 2, 2024), Akron Book Festival (March 9, 2024,) and Ohioana Book Festival (April 2024).

Going to have a few giveaways in November and December And yes, even on the last day here for Halloween. But Follow along on Facebook for the details. Just find the Halloween post and like and post a picture in your Halloween costume to win a chance to receive a digital copy of the anthology of short stories. You’ll be treated to one if not two award winning stories.

Tales From the Prickle Forrest will be out in 2024. Watch for it!

Okay, so maybe only spent half the month under the electric blanket… And now the hour of sitting here at the computer is about up, but also wanted to give a big shout-out to those who signed up for the Prickle Forrest Chronicles newsletter via BookSweeps. Thanks for subscribing!

Don’t hesitate to send in some comments, they are much appreciated!

And for those of you who have asked, I love trick-or-treating and my favorite candy , well, that’s easy… ALL OF THEM! Oh wait, no licorice. None of that stuff. Yuck!

    Happy Halloween!

  • Prickle Forrest Chronicles – September 2023 Newsletter – Orange, red, gold, and brown all around.. Woohoo!

    Prickle Forrest Chronicles

    September 2023

    Dear Pricklers,

    Autumn has hit. Woohoo! Woohoo!

It’s my favorite time of the year too. I love the cooler temps because I love wearing jeans, a hoody, and my boots. Still got my black jeweled ones and my knee-high brown boots, but I might actually pull out a pair that they call cognac in color. Okay, on a serious note, love the leaves. Miss seeing their beautiful colors in the fall. And my other favorite thing to do is dress my lawn geese, Goosie and Gander. After all, the 4th of July is over now, so probably should put them in more appropriate clothes, right?

Okay, okay, so fall clothes and boots aside, the fall season is a favorite because of the pumpkins. No, no, not to carve, but to eat. That’s right. When September hits it’s pumpkin everything! Woohoo! And just between you and me, my favorite drink is expresso with pumpkin cream and a shot of cinnamon whiskey. But hey, that’s not every day. Now the expresso and pumpkin cream is, just not the cinnamon whiskey. That’s my Friday night treat.

Well, enough about me, so what do you love about the fall?

    The Past …

Have gone wide on IngramSpark, Amazon, Google Play, Libby, et cetera.Love it! Please do me a favor, ask your libraries to carry my books. Thanks!

Finished Hobbedehoy Rising by Max Willi Fischer. My review will be posted soon. Will do that once the E-book goes live, but it will go on https://www.prickleforrestbooks.com/blog .

This would make a great movie!!!

Treasuring Whiskey’s Salvation… Got 2 chapters done of the 25 needed. Ugh! Hopefully NaNoWriMo will give that kick in the caboose to get this done… either that or get more coffee!

    The Present …

September 24th – All ready for the North Coast Book Expo. Yikes! That’s tomorrow!

‡Signed up to help with the election process. Went to training for it today. Doing the civic duty thing. How about you? And yes, they do know about the blindness. Figured they’ll need someone to pass out the “I voted” stickers.

Hey, depending on when you read this, it might not be too late to still join the Facebook Group “Isn’t it romantic” for your chance to win books, swag, and other cool stuff. Doesn’t end until the 24th.

Over 300 authors giving away prizes. And yes, this author is participating. Just find my comment and leave a response that you were there. Winners announced on Sunday, September 24th. Going to give away 2 books and 2 digital books.

And, “Big Welcome!” to our new subscribers!!!

    The Future …

‡ October 10th — Podcasts Live interview with Peter Okonkwo. This should be fun, but terrifying. Have you listened to Peter? He’s fantastic.

October 28th – Knives Out Movie night – Group of local authors plan to watch the movie and break it down to practice building a novel. Should be hilarious unless popcorn runs out. Yikes!

‡ November 11th — Massillon Public Library Book Signing 12 pm to 3 pm. This will be this author’s second appearance and it’s rumored that Max Willi Fisher is planning to attend. Yay!

November 1st — NaNoWriMo starts! Hopefully will get most of Treasuring Whiskey’s Salvation written. Hahaha!

With September nearing its end, only two months of fall left. What do you plan to do for the next 2 months? Me? Trying to lose another 10 pounds. Already lost 15 and in order to fit into my Halloween costume those inches have got to go. I’d love to hear from you and hey, maybe I’ll use one of your stories in book 4 or 5. Let me know what your thinking. Email me… chrissyhartmann

    August 2023

    Dear Pricklers,

Holy cow! Where did August go? For having 31 days in the month it sure flew by, but then again with everything going on I’m not surprised. Ugh!

    Read on and I’ll explain…

Because there’s lots to share. And big-big welcome to the newbies! Thanks for joining us!

    The PAST…

    • Hallelujah! The Whiskey Salvation magnet is up! Took some real fenagling to get it on so it displayed correctly as a PDF and EPub file. But it’s working. And just a little tip, if you use the BookFunnel ap, make sure your screen in the program is unlocked. Makes a huge difference in displaying the magnet correctly. Hahaha! That would have save me probably 5 days of trying to get it on. But, hey, it’s on and I hope you enjoy it. Please let me know what you think. And if you need a copy, e-mail me at my publishers for a one time download of it, prickleforrestllc@sssnet.com.

    • BookSweeps first promo was a huge success. Still waiting for them to let me know who the winner is so that I can send them a digital copy of Rescuing Whiskey’s Salvation. I believe my second BookSweeps promo for Cherishing Whiskey’s Salvation, a second chance romance is coming up here soon too. Then a third one will be at the end of the month running into October for Rescuing Whiskey’s Salvation again.

    • The Whiskey Salvation Series is now available at bookstores and libraries. If you don’t see them there, just ask the librarians and/or book store proprietor to order them. Black Cat Books became my official first bookstore to have them on hand. Woohoo! I’m hoping once book 3 comes out, I can do a book signing there and at other bookstores too. If you’re in the Medina area, check them out. They have lots of great books and other stuff too.

•The meeting with the owner of the Oak Barrel Company to incorporate his business in book 4 had to be postponed due to both of our busy schedules. The picture gives you a fairly good idea of one of the locations for book 4 or is it going to be book 5? Still not sure which book I’ll start next. You’ll have to read the Whiskey Tattler to get an idea of my next 2 Whiskey Salvation books.

    The PRESENT…

•Now working on Book 3. Woohoo! Hallelujah! Amen! I’ve written 1 chapter out of the 25 I need to write to finish the book. Having fun writing it too. Just wish I could do it in Bermuda where it’s set. Hmm? Might have to work something out regarding that.

    • Preparing for the book signing on Sunday September 24th – North Coast Book Expo 1-6 pm Avon OH. Just ordered a new supply of both novels for the book signing. Got my red pens all ready to autograph them. Book bundles will be available that day and in November. But if you can’t make it, you can order one here

Plus a sweet package for the book signing will be available. Can’t wait to show it off. Also going to give one away for the Facebook group “Isn’t it Romantic 4th annual Fall give away. There’s still time to join the group to win. The give away is the weekend of September 22nd and 23rd. Winners will be announced on the 24th. And hey, you got a really good shot of winning.
