    Prickle Forrest Chronicles

    October 2023

    Chrissy Hartmann

    Dear Pricklers,

Ever have one of those months when you just want to crawl under the electric blanket and wait for the next month to appear on your calendar? No? Yeah, me neither.

Well, sort of, but the ghosties and ghoulies made the month worth while. But, hey, that’s just our little secret. Right? Mums the word!

Read on to see what’s kept me busy or should I say painfully busy. Hahaha!

    The Past …

‡. Met the owner of Walls of Books from Parma OH who inquired about stocking her bookshelves with the Whiskey Salvation Series novels.

Holy smokes, heck yeah, Stock those shelves. Woohoo!

Crash course on publishing to IngramSpark learned in a matter of days. Ugh!

Cruising along with book 3 of the Whiskey Salvation Series… Until supply of Oreos ran out. Muses didn’t appreciate all the weight loss from the past 3 months of working out and now on Strike. Negotiations not yet worked out. Management wants Nutter Butters and Muses want Oreos.

Had to post this pic. Here is a blast from the past. It’s me dressed up as the “cat in the Hat” for Halloween 2022. Didn’t dress up this year, but will explain that soon.

    The Present …

Signed up to be an election poll worker. And yes, got hired! Woohoo! Woohoo!

Believe it or not, blind people can help with election day… and they don’t just have to pass out “I voted” stickers either. Lots to do… But the instruction manual is huge! Luckily it’s available on PDF.

Tested out the skills needed and this author is good to go. Boy howdy!

Carpeted cement floor is just as hard to fall on as cemented floor. Yep, that’s right. Got the x-rays to prove it. Dislocated the pelvis and aggravated the already compressed vertebra at the T12, L1, and L2 levels. How’d it happen? Tripped over the Puppygirl. No worries , though she’s fine. Lucky dog!

A certain 2006 Cadillac finally drove itself to the salvage yard. Well, not really, it had help since the starter finally died, not to mention other things on it…

October is “National find a really-really cheap used car month,“ right?

Is confiscating a hot tub a misdemeanor or a felony? Asking for a friend of course.

But it’s a fantastic question after celebrating the 25th “silver” wedding anniversary with the hubby at the Hidden Valley Cabin here in Ohio. They had a lovely hot tub that worked wonders on the pelvis and back injuries, not to mention the pain meds too.

    Roosevelt Glamping rocks!

‡ Now seriously behind on everything due to the accident. Ugh! But I will say I’ve made a new best friend. My electric blanket. He’s been supportive, warm, loves to snuggle, and doesn’t mind my moaning and groaning when I roll over, sit up, or even stand. His name is Red P. Flannel. Because of him, I’ve only spent maybe half the month hiding away recovering like a good girl.

    He’s awesome!

And another positive note, the Hubby found a new car. A 2014 Subaru Forester. Woohoo!

‡ Working on 4 possibly 5 books at the moment…

    What? Yep, definitely crazy here.

No need to worry though, “Treasuring Whiskey’s Salvation” is priority one on the list. And still on schedule. Sort of!

    The Future …

NaNoWriMo starts in a few days. Ready? Hahaha! Not going to answer that until December.

Book Festivals galore coming up. Woohoo!

Massillon Public Library Book Festival (November 11, 2023), Orrville Public Library Book Festival (March 2, 2024), Akron Book Festival (March 9, 2024,) and Ohioana Book Festival (April 2024).

Going to have a few giveaways in November and December And yes, even on the last day here for Halloween. But Follow along on Facebook for the details. Just find the Halloween post and like and post a picture in your Halloween costume to win a chance to receive a digital copy of the anthology of short stories. You’ll be treated to one if not two award winning stories.

Tales From the Prickle Forrest will be out in 2024. Watch for it!

Okay, so maybe only spent half the month under the electric blanket… And now the hour of sitting here at the computer is about up, but also wanted to give a big shout-out to those who signed up for the Prickle Forrest Chronicles newsletter via BookSweeps. Thanks for subscribing!

Don’t hesitate to send in some comments, they are much appreciated!

And for those of you who have asked, I love trick-or-treating and my favorite candy , well, that’s easy… ALL OF THEM! Oh wait, no licorice. None of that stuff. Yuck!

    Happy Halloween!

    Stay prickly my friends!

  • Prickle Forrest Chronicles – September 2023 Newsletter – Orange, red, gold, and brown all around.. Woohoo!

    Prickle Forrest Chronicles

    September 2023

    Dear Pricklers,

    Autumn has hit. Woohoo! Woohoo!

It’s my favorite time of the year too. I love the cooler temps because I love wearing jeans, a hoody, and my boots. Still got my black jeweled ones and my knee-high brown boots, but I might actually pull out a pair that they call cognac in color. Okay, on a serious note, love the leaves. Miss seeing their beautiful colors in the fall. And my other favorite thing to do is dress my lawn geese, Goosie and Gander. After all, the 4th of July is over now, so probably should put them in more appropriate clothes, right?

Okay, okay, so fall clothes and boots aside, the fall season is a favorite because of the pumpkins. No, no, not to carve, but to eat. That’s right. When September hits it’s pumpkin everything! Woohoo! And just between you and me, my favorite drink is expresso with pumpkin cream and a shot of cinnamon whiskey. But hey, that’s not every day. Now the expresso and pumpkin cream is, just not the cinnamon whiskey. That’s my Friday night treat.

Well, enough about me, so what do you love about the fall?

    The Past …

Have gone wide on IngramSpark, Amazon, Google Play, Libby, et cetera.Love it! Please do me a favor, ask your libraries to carry my books. Thanks!

Finished Hobbedehoy Rising by Max Willi Fischer. My review will be posted soon. Will do that once the E-book goes live, but it will go on https://www.prickleforrestbooks.com/blog .

This would make a great movie!!!

Treasuring Whiskey’s Salvation… Got 2 chapters done of the 25 needed. Ugh! Hopefully NaNoWriMo will give that kick in the caboose to get this done… either that or get more coffee!

    The Present …

September 24th – All ready for the North Coast Book Expo. Yikes! That’s tomorrow!

‡Signed up to help with the election process. Went to training for it today. Doing the civic duty thing. How about you? And yes, they do know about the blindness. Figured they’ll need someone to pass out the “I voted” stickers.

Hey, depending on when you read this, it might not be too late to still join the Facebook Group “Isn’t it romantic” for your chance to win books, swag, and other cool stuff. Doesn’t end until the 24th.

Over 300 authors giving away prizes. And yes, this author is participating. Just find my comment and leave a response that you were there. Winners announced on Sunday, September 24th. Going to give away 2 books and 2 digital books.

And, “Big Welcome!” to our new subscribers!!!

    The Future …

‡ October 10th — Podcasts Live interview with Peter Okonkwo. This should be fun, but terrifying. Have you listened to Peter? He’s fantastic.

October 28th – Knives Out Movie night – Group of local authors plan to watch the movie and break it down to practice building a novel. Should be hilarious unless popcorn runs out. Yikes!

‡ November 11th — Massillon Public Library Book Signing 12 pm to 3 pm. This will be this author’s second appearance and it’s rumored that Max Willi Fisher is planning to attend. Yay!

November 1st — NaNoWriMo starts! Hopefully will get most of Treasuring Whiskey’s Salvation written. Hahaha!

With September nearing its end, only two months of fall left. What do you plan to do for the next 2 months? Me? Trying to lose another 10 pounds. Already lost 15 and in order to fit into my Halloween costume those inches have got to go. I’d love to hear from you and hey, maybe I’ll use one of your stories in book 4 or 5. Let me know what your thinking. Email me… chrissyhartmann

  • Prickle Forrest Chronicles August 2023 Newsletter – Holy cow!

    Prickle Forrest Chronicles

    August 2023

    Dear Pricklers,

Holy cow! Where did August go? For having 31 days in the month it sure flew by, but then again with everything going on I’m not surprised. Ugh!

    Read on and I’ll explain…

Because there’s lots to share. And big-big welcome to the newbies! Thanks for joining us!

    The PAST…

    • Hallelujah! The Whiskey Salvation magnet is up! Took some real fenagling to get it on so it displayed correctly as a PDF and EPub file. But it’s working. And just a little tip, if you use the BookFunnel ap, make sure your screen in the program is unlocked. Makes a huge difference in displaying the magnet correctly. Hahaha! That would have save me probably 5 days of trying to get it on. But, hey, it’s on and I hope you enjoy it. Please let me know what you think. And if you need a copy, e-mail me at my publishers for a one time download of it, prickleforrestllc@sssnet.com.

    • BookSweeps first promo was a huge success. Still waiting for them to let me know who the winner is so that I can send them a digital copy of Rescuing Whiskey’s Salvation. I believe my second BookSweeps promo for Cherishing Whiskey’s Salvation, a second chance romance is coming up here soon too. Then a third one will be at the end of the month running into October for Rescuing Whiskey’s Salvation again.

    • The Whiskey Salvation Series is now available at bookstores and libraries. If you don’t see them there, just ask the librarians and/or book store proprietor to order them. Black Cat Books became my official first bookstore to have them on hand. Woohoo! I’m hoping once book 3 comes out, I can do a book signing there and at other bookstores too. If you’re in the Medina area, check them out. They have lots of great books and other stuff too.

•The meeting with the owner of the Oak Barrel Company to incorporate his business in book 4 had to be postponed due to both of our busy schedules. The picture gives you a fairly good idea of one of the locations for book 4 or is it going to be book 5? Still not sure which book I’ll start next. You’ll have to read the Whiskey Tattler to get an idea of my next 2 Whiskey Salvation books.

    The PRESENT…

•Now working on Book 3. Woohoo! Hallelujah! Amen! I’ve written 1 chapter out of the 25 I need to write to finish the book. Having fun writing it too. Just wish I could do it in Bermuda where it’s set. Hmm? Might have to work something out regarding that.

    • Preparing for the book signing on Sunday September 24th – North Coast Book Expo 1-6 pm Avon OH. Just ordered a new supply of both novels for the book signing. Got my red pens all ready to autograph them. Book bundles will be available that day and in November. But if you can’t make it, you can order one here

Plus a sweet package for the book signing will be available. Can’t wait to show it off. Also going to give one away for the Facebook group “Isn’t it Romantic 4th annual Fall give away. There’s still time to join the group to win. The give away is the weekend of September 22nd and 23rd. Winners will be announced on the 24th. And hey, you got a really good shot of winning. • Prickle Forrest Chronicles – June 2023 – Tornados, hail, lightening strikes, and a fried power cord. Oh my!

    Prickle Forrest Chronicles

    June 2023

    Dear Pricklers,

Tornados, hail, lightening strikes, and a fried power cord. Oh my!

Didn’t expect June to bring such excitement weather wise. But after the past few years, I don’t doubt the orneriness of Mother Nature. The month started out dry and hot with little rain. Then we get hit on the anniversary of last year’s destructive wind storm with tornados, over 900 lightening strikes, and hail. Now here at the end it’s cool and sprinkles of rain falling all around us. And the temperature? What’s with that? This up and down stuff really is for the birds. But with surviving the past few weather events and joining planet fitness, ironic, huh?

I’m confident things will only get better.

And not to forget our new Pricklers, “Thanks for joining the Prickle Forrest Chronicles. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I love sharing my little neck of the woods. Now read on…

    The Past …

So, the reader magnet is still with the editor. Things are moving slowly, very slowly. Frustrated. So, instead, came up with a new one after listening to self-published author, Mark Dawson on his podcast, The Self-Publishing Show.

Just for a hint on what it might be, remember Hazel and Harriet Montgomery? They’re those two crazy blue-haired Antiquers from Whiskey. Remember them now? No, then maybe you should pick up a copy of

    Rescuing Whiskey’s Salvation

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KZM7M1C

E-book is $5.99 and Paperback is just a smidge more at $6.14, but don’t quote me on that. Amazon is playing crazy with the pricing right now, but it does benefit you readers, so take advantage of it. I’m not sure how long it will last.

Back to Hazel and Harriet, they’ve decided to help out with the reader magnet. See they have a little gossip rag they want to share. If I can get the graphic art designer to get finished with their cover, I should be launching it by July 1st. Yes, I know, I promised the other one by June 1st, but this one looks like it’s coming into the home stretch and pulling away from the other to win. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

    The Present …

Let’s face it, June came in haphazardly and the month isn’t done yet either. Oh boy!

And what I mean by that is that I had no expectations of the weather being crazy and some personal events taking stage. For one thing, my dog guide, Winnie, who is a 13-year-old black lab-golden retriever fell down the steps and pinched a nerve in her back. It’s affected her already weak back right leg. Heartbreakingly, I’ve decided she can no longer do the steps in our split-level home. I really don’t think she minds not traversing them. After all, she’s hated steps since she went to dog guide school, maybe even as a puppy. She, however, is not thrilled at the fact that we are separated. She barked up a storm a few nights ago letting me know how unhappy she might be if I were to make her sleep in the family room all by herself.

So, for now, I’ve taken up residency on the couch. Couching it has made me appreciative of mattress stuffers. And believe it or not, it’s also helped me become more productive with writing. How so? Sleeping on a lumpy couch will make anyone get up and want to write. So, when my back aches, I grab the heating pad and Tylenol bottle and head for the computer. If anyone can suggest an air mattress brand, I’d be grateful.

Now awake, I sit down and work on writing… well I did until the next disaster.

A horrible storm rolled through our neck of the woods last week with the high winds, hail, tornados, and over 900 lightening strikes that managed to fry our router and my power cord to my laptop. All will soon be fixed. I’m currently writing from my ancient laptop and my iPhone. Woohoo! Woohoo!

The storm put me back on my writing for about five days. Ugh! Not the easiest thing to write on your phone. Plus, the stress it caused knowing it would be a 50/50 chance I’d be able to recover my files. BTW… files were recovered. Woohoo!

Not sure if it’s the Muses tactic to talk to Mother Nature and arrange for that little display of bad weather to get more out of me, but we did manage to get our little “grove project” up and running due to shear desperation and the use of my ancient computer dating back to the days of XP.

Do me the favor please, check it out and send me a message from the site and let me know what you think. go to

    https://prickleforrestbooks.com

Miraculously too, my website is now updated, which you should check out https://chrissyhartmann.com

And the new magnet is done, all but for the cover, which I’ll hopefully have available on Book Funnel by July 1st.

I’ve had fun putting together a temporary outline for my next book. I don’t think it will be part of the Whiskey Salvation series, but as I type this now, thoughts are running through my head getting the Muses all excited. I can tell already they want the challenge to make it part of the Whiskey Salvation Series. Definitely going to have to give this some major thought. It would fit… sort of. After all, it will be a contemporary western romance but with some definite fantasy/paranormal aspects to it. I’m really excited about this one, so hopefully, it will push me to get the third book of the Whiskey Salvation Series done quicker. After I get this newsletter out, I’ll be cracking that book open to write. And let’s not forget I still need help naming Josiah’s 4-seater Cessna 172 that is black and silver. At the moment, the name suggestions submitted are

Titan, Bullet, Silver, Bessie, and Windfall.

Which do you like? Please send me your suggestion or opinion of one of these. Contact me at https://chrissyhartmann.com/contact

I’ll be posting the winning name soon.

    Indie Author Shout-Out…

Get, RETURN POLICY by Hailey Dickert. She’s written another contemporary sports romance. If you liked her first novel, The Sister Between Us, then you’ll love Return Policy. It’s now available here…

    https://a.co/d/8rVODWB

Return Policy is the first installment in the Crystal Bay University series.

This is a college sports romance about escaping your past and welcoming the good things in life even when it feels like the world is falling apart. There are tons of witty banter, text exchanges, and all those early relationship butterflies, paired with multiple plot twists.

    Elijah Anderson

I was the big man on campus.

Everything in my life was going exactly according to plan until a wrecking ball reminded me that there were more important things than touchdowns, booze, and pretty girls.

In the most turbulent time of my life, I felt lost and defeated until the moment my eyes landed on her.

Sophia Summers is everything I never knew I wanted. A sweet shot of sunshine in the unrelenting hurricane.

There’s just one little problem. She doesn’t trust in love, and she definitely doesn’t trust me.

But I’m a patient man, and she’s worth waiting for. Soon she’ll realize that I want every part of her—the darkness, the light, and the shadows in between. I’m already hers, whether she likes it or not.

    No returns, no refunds.

This is the first novel in the Crystal Bay University series by Hailey Dickert.

Return Policy can be read as a standalone; however, since Sophia is a side character from Dickert’s first novel The Sister Between Us, it is suggested to read that first for the best reader experience.

    The Future …

I’ll be signing books at the 2023 Northeast Ohio Indie Author Book Expo in Avon, Ohio on September 24th from 1 pm to 5 pm. Then again in November at the Massillon Public Library’s author book fair. Date to be announced soon. Both events will have lots of great books to add to your reading collection. Other than these two event, I should be writing and editing. Don’t forget to follow me on:

  • Prickle Forrest Chronicles – May 2023 Wow! Almost half way there…

    PRICKLE FORREST CHRONICLES

    May 2023

    Dear Pricklers,

Wow! Half-way point for 2023 is almost here. So, what are you doing for Memorial Day? Here? Probably will go to the Memorial Day parade. Not sure , though. Maybe if the resident Eagle Scout will be marching in it as he’s done in the past. Well actually not maybe, more like definitely. After all who doesn’t love a parade?

The resident Eagle Scout is helping out with the troop, so, hoping he does. If he does, will go and watch for sure. Other than that, would like to grill out on the deck and write. And speaking of writing, here’s a little bit to catch you up…

    The Past …

Well, had both books from the Whiskey Salvation Series on Kindle Unlimited for the last 90 days. Both did well. But on the 17th of May, Kindle Unlimited will come to an end for the Whiskey Salvation Series. Going wide!

In fact, Rescuing Whiskey’s Salvation has already gone wide. Look below for the links to find it. And definitely feel free to share that information. Will however probably reshelve the books on to Kindle Unlimited when the third book of the series comes out. Thinking about bundling the three up for the holidays, but only if number 3 gets published before or after Turkey Day. Keep the fingers crossed, please. Tried it, butt too hard to type that way, so will need some help and yours is the best. Thanks!

Launched a book tour with Silver Dagger Tours. Maia Gomez is fantastic. In fact, it’s still going strong. Want to follow it? Check it out at her website. There is a giveaway. A $30 Amazon card and 4 aluminum Rescuing Whiskey’s Salvation book marks, which they are a personal favorite. Actually could have given 5 away, but needed to keep one, after all it’s the first book in the series.

Catch up to the tour at these blogs:

    C.A.Milson
    Literary Gold

Also met two really sweet bloggers who are going to do a review of Rescuing Whiskey’s Salvation and Cherishing Whiskey’s Salvation .

Heather and Kim asked for hard copies. So one of our mottos is “We aim to please” , Therefore,, autographed two and sent them. Added a little flare to them too. Not sure if you can see it in the picture below, but Kim definitely points it out.

And Kim graciously made a TikTok unwrapping video upon receiving the books. Check it out, it’s wonderful!

And as for that little survey that made it into the April newsletter… about who might like Cherishing Whiskey Salvation best… You know, who would like it better… the guys vs the gals… looks like from the response it’s neck and neck. Reminds one of the Kentucky Derby. Right? Maybe your favorite author you just happen to be reading about right now. Huh? Hint! Hint!

Speaking of the Derby…did you watch the best 2 minutes in sports this past May 6th?

Never would have thought Mage would win. Did you? In fact, picked Cyclone Mischief to win with Two Phil’s to place, and Confidence Game to show.

Well, at least got 1 out of the 3 correct. Wonder what Angel of Empire won? And best of all, placed third in the hat contest at the Galaxy’s Kentucky Derby party. Woohoo! Woohoo!

Next year going to attend the same party, but will wear a different hat. Send some suggestions to decorate the same style of hat, but different colors, dark brown and black. Love those colors. Actually, the prettiest horses are ones with those colors. Right? If you have any suggestions, thoughts, or ideas send them to me. Love hearing from you. And don’t forget to mention who you picked to win the Derby. Do you think Mage is a Triple Crown contender?

    The Present …

Just curious… do you have an alter ego? It’s looking more and more like there’s one here. Or is it a split personality? Haven’t figured that out yet. In the meantime, one of the alters’ is getting things accomplished. And it’s all good. Woohoo!

For one thing… The reader magnet is finished. It’s being edited right now. Hoping to have it out June 1st. Don’t worry, they’ll be a link for those of you who would like to read it. Made it especially for any newcomers. But won’t dare leave any of you out.

In the meantime, working on the presentation on Book Funnel and BookBub. Also, at the moment, the website https://chrissyhartmann.com is getting a makeover. Nothing outrageous, but a few additions added to the merch on the Extras page

    https://chrissyhartmann.com/extras

and a few new pics on My Darlings page

    https://chrissyhartmann.com/my darlings

Changing up the bio and adding the book cover for book three. SO, if you want a peek at it check it out at https://chrissyhartmann.com

And for those of you who are new, last month, put out a cry for help. Well not really, but it does make it more desperate sounding, right? So, you’ll look, right?

Anyway, need a name for Josiah’s plane. Right now, its name is “Silver”

Admittedly, the plane is silver and black. Yes, the magnet is part of a western romance series, but This Silver is nothing like the Lone Rangers… well sort of. However, the editor doesn’t like the name. Need another name. Have been told it’s a little corny. So, taking suggestions for a new name. If you have something good, please send it in.

    Submit it here https://chrissyhartmann.com/contact

And just in case you need details, it’s a little 4-seater Cessna 172 plane that is silver and black. And yes, the plane is a big part of this story. If you read both books from the Whiskey Salvation Series, you’ll know why. And, the idea is being tossed around about writing a full-length novel and not just this magnet. IF you have no clue as to what’s being talked about, well, then maybe there’s a few of you who need to read the books, huh?

And if you have, leave a review using the following links. Authors love reviews good or bad. Helps make the writing better. Thanks! Leave a review at

    Cherishing Whiskey’s Salvation

    https://amazon.com/review/create-review?asin=B0BTBLC6T5

There are two other stories on standby after the third book is finished. But they may stray off the western path. Maybe. But thinking about it now, might not have to. Woohoo!

What do you think of cowboys and Vikings and the fae? And how about a new name for Josiah’s plane?

Please, please, send me your comments and/or thoughts.

    https://chrissyhartmann.com/contact

    The Future …

Excitement is brewing here at the Prickle Forrest. There’s a new little grove forming off the main Forrest. It does have something to do with writing. Everyone will benefit from it. And, no it is not a papermill either. Sheesh!

Readers and Authors will hopefully love it. Only a few things left to get it launched. But don’t worry, the novel writing will continue here. Not giving that up. No way, no how! Promise!

Had planned on attending the Columbus Book Festival July 15th and 16th, but with the new little grove thing happening and the need to get book 3 done, won’t have time to spend 2 days at it. Hopefully next year, though. Do plan to venture down with a group of writer friends to support those who are attending. Crazy, huh?

Plus, putting together a book of short stories. And yes, there will be 1 if not 2 award-winning short stories in the book. Only going to put this out in digital format. More news to come later…

Hey, what’s the rumor about the format of the Kindle books changing? What’s the deal with that? And those books already purchased in Mobi format, will they still work on the Kindle?

Got any answers, shoot them over to https://chrissyhartmann.com/contact

They better continue to work on the kindles! There’s a ton of books on this kindle. Haven’t even made a dent in the library. But currently reading

Peter Gibbons Viking Blood and Blade. Hope to have a book review for it out next month. And that’ folks is a hint on what’s coming from the Prickle Forrest. Stay tuned…

And not to forget Prickle Forrest Chronicles new subscribers… “Welcome and thank you for joining!

    Stay prickly, my friends!

  • Prickle Forrest Chronicles April 2023 – Holy Smokes! Where did …

    PRICKLE FORREST CHRONICLES

    CHRISSY HARTMANN

    April 2023

    Dear Pricklers:

Holy smokes! Where did April go? Apologies for the tardiness of this newsletter, but when did April not have 31 days in it? And don’t worry, there will be a separate May newsletter. Lots going on this month and as you can already see in April too.

I’m going on tour. Woohoo! Woohoo! Silver Dagger Tours is promoting my books this month. There’s a lot to do to set up one of these tours, but we got it done. And really can’t figure out how I managed to “not” realize May started this week. Probably brain overload. I’ve met a ton of wonderful book bloggers setting up for this and will have a number of bloggers reviewing my books and hosting a number of other things in the upcoming months. I’m so excited!

Here’s me getting ready to go to the post office to send out some hard copies of my books for two of the bloggers/reviewers.

Figure 1Chrissy off to the post office to send out her novels.

Cute, huh? And I am talking about the books and how I packaged them, not me, silly!

But I’ll admit, I do have a great pair of kicka$$ boots on. Probably my favorites… until I find another pair, which reminds me, I need to schedule a day in the fall to go boot shopping. And for your information only… “I don’t like the summer because I’ve not yet found a pair of boots that look good with shorts.” Maybe, I’ll just have to wear skirts instead. That would look fantastic, right?

Big big thanks to my new subscribers! I hope you’ll enjoy the newsletter. So welcome, Marcy, Mark, Rita, Jon, Wendy, Kim, Heather, Beth, Lori, and David!

Almost done with my reader magnet. Just need to write probably one or two more paragraphs. Then it will be on to the editors. I’ll be glad to get that over with it. But I I’ll admit writing this magnet has made me want to expand this story and make it into another novella, which could be lots of fun. And yes, our mischievous clowns are in it… Well sort of… Okay, maybe a brief cameo. But you’ll have to read it to figure it out. And for those of you who are already on the mailing list, don’t worry, I’ll send you a copy of it. When it goes live, I’ll let you know so that way you can inform me if you’d like it too. Still trying to decide on a book cover for it. Not sure if everyone puts a book cover with them or not. I’ll have to refer to the experts. But wouldn’t it be nice if you opened the PDF and found a beautiful book cover as the first page? I’d love it.

I had hoped to inform you all that I would be attending the Columbus Book Festival this year, but due to some unfortunate circumstances I had to decline their offer to join them. Maybe next year. But I do plan to be out at different events later this year especially to the local libraries since they are always such a hoot. And if I can get my schedule coordinated with a very popular author/radio host who does a national show on Friday nights I’ll be on their too. Hoping to chat it up with him in the fall. That would be exciting… you know getting to talk one-on-one with a best seller.

And speaking of interviews, a new blogger site is coming out soon. They are going to be adding me to their lineup to do some guest hosting. I’ll sometimes do a romance book review for them, the Prickle Forrest Books blog. They are a new blog service coming online in June. They are going to do author interviews of all genres, author shout outs, book reviews, beta reading, and sensitivity reading for mostly Indie Authors. The goal is to help Indie Authors get the best work out there for readers. And I agree. Lots of fabulous Indie Authors who don’t get credit for the stuff that they write.

Concentration will be primarily on Romance (of course), Sci-Fi, History, YA, and Paranormal/Fantasy genres. Reviews will be going up on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Google, Apple, Kobo, the Prickle Forrest Books blog, et cetera.

Look for them on Instagram, Facebook, Amazon, GoodReads, Twitter, and more.

Figure 2The Prickle Forrest Books logo

Okay, Pricklers, thanks for bearing with me. Don’t hesitate to let me know what you’re thinking. And if you’d like to help me out with my reader magnet, help me come up with a name for Josiah’s plane. It’s silver with black trim. I went with the obvious, “Silver,” but it’s just not working for me. Reminds me too much of the Lone Ranger’s horse. And yes, I know I write western romances, but would like something a little more original.

    So, please, “help!”

Send me your ideas either on FB, Twitter, Instagram or email them to me at https://chrissyhartmann.com/contact And if your reading this on the Prickle Forrest Chronicles blog post, you can comment below.

Don’t forget, Cherishing Whiskey’s Salvation will be off Kindle Unlimited starting May 17th because we’ll be going wide so those who don’t use KDP can read it. And if you don’t use Kindle unlimited, May 11th to the 15th the E-book will be free. Please check it out and leave a review. Your reviews really do matter to us.

  • Prickle Forrest Chronickles Special Edition – Author Interview with Hailey Dickert

    PRICKLE FORREST CHRONICLES

    SPECIAL Edition

    Author Interview

Welcome to the Prickle Forrest Chronicles, Hailey Dickert!

It’s wonderful you could take the time to share with the Pricklers a bit about you and your writing.

First, where are you from? How long have you been writing? What book is this for you? First? Second? Or too many it’s hard to remember?

I’m from Fort Pierce, Florida but I currently live near Frankfurt, Germany. I have been writing my entire life. Previously I wrote songs and even had a blog at one point but The Sister Between Us is my very first novel.

What type of romance do you write? What romances do you love to read? Do you have a favorite romance author that inspires you?

I write contemporary sports romance. I also love to read any contemporary romance but I have a soft spot for hockey romance even though I know nothing about the sport. My favorite author is C.W. Farnsworth who inspires me through her work ethic and beautiful stories.

In brief, tell us about your book, The Sister Between Us.

The Sister Between Us is a childhood friends to lovers story about Leah (FMC) falling in love with her best friend’s brother, Jake (MMC). We get to see their journey through being friends, admitting their feelings, being in love, and how they will over come tragedy. Will they find their way back to one another even as everything is falling apart?

When you received your first copy of your newly published book, The Sister Between Us how did you feel? Did you flood social media with a book selfie? Celebrate with Champagne? Chocolate? Or pass out?

The first time I received a proof copy of my book I danced around the room like a crazy person—then I started marketing it up in red.

When you’re stuck with a scene, how do you resolve the trouble? Take a shower? Call your writing pals? Reenact the scene with your significant other?

It depends on the scene. If it’s a spicy one, I drink a glass of wine. If it’s a normal one I usually chat about it with a close friend of mine and we always come up with a solution.

Besides your computer, what can be found on your writing desk? Pictures of a hunky guy? Gorgeous woman? Coffee? Popcorn? Craft books? Empty wine glass? Chocolate? The latest issue of Vogue? The Writer’s Magazine? Or maybe a fluffy fur ball? In other words, what helps you write?

I always have a candle lit, something to drink, and music playing in the background.

What type of character populates the majority of your pages? What’s your favorite trope to read and write? After you’ve written your novel, ever get stunned by the fact that you wrote it?

My favorite trope to read and write would be he falls first and harder. I often flip through my copy of The Sister Between Us and can’t believe that I’ve written and will publish it.

If you write the hotter romances, when’s the best time for you to write those scenes? Does the writing come natural or do you make yourself blush? Have your parents stopped answering your calls? Buy you a gold-plated keyboard? Or have they signed you up for sex counseling classes?

I like to write the hotter scenes when I’m alone and drinking a glass of wine. This way I don’t feel like anyone is around judging me and also so that I can really get into the mindset of the scene without distractions. In the beginning I used to blush writing the spicy scenes but now they are coming easier and more naturally. My Dad will (hopefully) never read those parts and my Mom wasn’t weird about it at all!

So, say you want to do a box set with two other romance authors, who would you choose? What romance trope would you write?

I would probably chose Hannah Grace and CW Farnsworth because they both write excellent sports romance. Regarding the trope? I have no idea besides that it would be sports romance.

If you had the opportunity to promote one of your books from your backlist, which would you choose? Why?

I don’t have a back list, but I do have my second novel ‘Return Policy’ coming out June 23! It is the first in my university series ‘Crystal Bay University’ and the female main character is a side character from The Sister Between Us.

If someone were to make a movie based on your book, which actors would play the leading roles?

Leah would be played by Abigail Cowen and Jake would be played by Danny Griffin. (Which is funny because they are currently dating in real life!)

Do you have any blog tours, signings, or other upcoming events that you would like to promote?

I will be doing a book signing on May 11 at 6pm at Sweet Haven Books in Miami, FL.

Finally, we know you’re a romantic, right? So what is the most romantic thing you’ve ever had your MCs do to win the love of their life?

Without giving away any spoilers, even during time apart, Jake was always supportive of Leah’s dreams and she see’s just how much once they reunite.
